JT Got a Job – Bloggin’s Gotta Go

by JT McGee

jobsI have a new job. Rather, I have a job.

I started this blog during my sophomore year (I think) as a way to escape from my college studies. I’m a finance undergrad (yes, even now…graduation keeps getting delayed), and I hated the fact that my class schedule had everything but finance. So I wrote here.

Money Mamba was the only thing that kept me sane, even if it may be the reason I got a C in some class when I should have earned an A.

I wouldn’t take that back for the world. I love everything about writing here – the comments, the frequent emails, the stock picking competitions. It’s all fun.

Then I started writing elsewhere. Along the way, I started analyzing the banking and insurance industry for my own portfolio. That research fed my writing.

Those articles led to a job offer I couldn’t refuse.

I’ve accepted a position to cover and explain finance, insurance, and real estate (FIRE) stocks for a certain financial publication/website. Opportunities like this don’t come along very often – getting paid to research and explain stocks is a dream come true.

Except for one thing: my new employer doesn’t want me seeing other people…err, blogs. I thought we were just keeping casual, but they wanted to be exclusive. Well, okay…but I still require wining and dining.

What this means

JT (my alias) is dead. He has to go hide, and Money Mamba has to go with it.

Money Mamba will stay online for the foreseeable future. Forever, probably, since I want to keep my email address anyway.

Here’s what won’t happen. I won’t:

  • Sell this blog
  • Spam it up
  • Sell subscribers’ emails and start pimping credit cards

I also won’t be disappearing entirely. I’ll likely continue to comment around the blogosphere, and I’ll absolutely answer my emails here at Money Mamba. You can reach me at contact@moneymamba.com. That goes double for microcap fans out there; my only outlet for those is gone!

I’d like to thank everyone for making this an experience of a lifetime. There’s a good chance you’ll be reading my writing in the future, although under my real name and at a different website. Send me an email, I may tell you where I’m going…maybe. ;)

There’s a (small) chance I might poke around here with life updates, or maybe I’ll be one of those annoying location independent bloggers. No, wait – writing isn’t work! So I’m a retired blogger!

Just kidding. I still don’t know the full extent to what I can and can’t write about (and I don’t want to push it), but I know that finance is off the table.

Anyway, I think I’ve covered all my bases. I hope I can continue to keep in touch with many of you who have contacted me directly. You guys rock! Keep in touch!

Take care,

JT

Thanks! I’m working on a way to do that. Either way, I’ll send you an email when it’s all official and I have a page to link to. I should have a dedicated RSS feed, too.

Thanks for reading over the past couple years.

I’ll figure out a way, I think. Until then, an update on the new home base will be in order.

Damn, a lot of bloggers are quitting! Good luck, JT. Your intuition on finance and stocks will be missed.

Keep in touch and let me know where you write next.

Will do, Bill. We’ll have to keep talking stocks, too.

That’s awesome! Congrats on snagging the opportunity. I’m sure you’ll like it and now you can take your tax statements to the bank and get that house! Lol

Heh, the bank can…well, jump off a cliff. I am pretty stoked about being able to cash in the brokerage account for some hard assets, though. That may be a future route for Money Mamba.

Congratulations! Selfishly, I’m sad. You were one of the better finance bloggers out there with very informative and entertaining articles. It’s quite evident why you would get an offer doing the same thing.

I hope your new employer will allow you to post here in the future, if not on finance matters, at least on how things are going.

Will you be able to share the publication sometime soon?

I can write about non-finance stuff here, so I probably will. If I do, I’ll probably refresh the blog entirely, though I won’t keep with the 2-3 post a week schedule. I sent you an email.

Thanks for reading all this time; it’s been fun. I’ll disclose the site soon, privately or otherwise. Thinking about the best way to do that.

You were one of the only guys putting up original stuff on the PF blogosphere JT. I can’t wait to see where you end up. Hopefully you’ll still include a few updates from time to time.

I’m glad to hear that your archives will continue to be available as I routinely surf through them when I need a change of pace and I’m online.
