How Many Engineers Does it Take to Make a Honda Commerical?

by JT McGee

The following Honda commercial:

1) Used zero CGI
2) Required 606 takes
3) Cost $1.5 million to produce.
4) Ran as part of a $9 million total cost ad campaign.

According to Wikipedia, it may have been the most successful TV advertisement campaign in automotive history. The ad was a hit instantaneously. The company recorded more traffic to its website in the 24 hours that followed its debut than all other automakers received the entire month!

But website traffic is only half the battle. The company received 250,000 unique visitors to its site, 10,000 requested more information about the Accord, or a DVD of the commercial itself.

That is an extraordinary commercial, and targeted perfectly towards the Honda buyer. So, did it really ake 606 attempts, or is there a little CGI action going there?

He’s absolutely correct, not one computer generated image:

Such a great commercial. The OK GO videos always remind me of this commercial.

Got to love Engineers.

Yeah, that study was a bit depressing. Someone should delineate the difference between being creepy and showing interest (Finding on Facebook right away? Googling?). How long should one wait before sending a romantic interest a Facebook Friend request?
